on video State of Charge SOC estimation methods | Battery Management System

In this video we will understand what is State of Charge (SOC) of battery and about the State of Charge (SOC) estimation methods.

State of charge of battery at a specific point is the ratio of charge available at that point to the total charge available when battery is fully charged. State of charge is expressed in percentage. It acts like EV fuel gauge indicating the amount of charge left in battery.

State of charge cannot be directly measured but it is estimated indirectly.

Common State of charge (SOC) estimation methods:

1. Voltage Method

2. Coulomb Counting Method

3. Kalman Filter Method

Watch the video to find out more.

SoC estimation is needed to predict the remaining charge of a battery cell. You also use it for cell balancing in some battery management systems. This video shows three ways to estimate SoC:

- Coulomb counting
- Unscented Kalman filters
- Extended Kalman filters
