on video This device is very useful,, you can do at home

3 essential measuring devices at home When you are like me, that is to say a little do-it-yourself on the edges and with a desire to optimize / improve / maintain your living space as best as possible, it is difficult to do without some essential measuring devices at home. These devices allow you to monitor and repair both your electronic devices (computers, Hifi, household appliances) but also simply your house or apartment as a whole with everything it contains.

Here is my selection of the 3 essential measuring devices at home that will make it easier for you to make a decision (whether or not to change a device), prevent problems or simply know the state of health or repair a device. The Wattmeter: measure your electricity consumption I think the subtitle is pretty self-explanatory so I'm not going to insult you by explaining what a power meter does!

On the other hand, I can spend a little time explaining to you how a power meter is useful or, in my opinion, simply essential in 2021. The increase in electricity prices has only just begun: in France for decades (thank you General) we have benefited from nuclear energy which, if it is often subject to debate, has two totally indisputable merits: The price of electricity is very low in France compared to our European neighbors because we produce it ourselves Nuclear does not emit CO2 and therefore does not contribute to global warming Of course, the issue of radioactive waste is an important subject, but it is a much less critical / urgent subject to deal with than the 5° increase that expects us within 30 years following the use of fossil fuels. Science has centuries ahead of it to find the answer to the storage/recycling of radioactive waste. my point is that the shift towards renewable energies, which are certainly ecological but much less efficient and dense, will have the effect of increasing electricity prices in the coming decade.

A wattmeter is therefore already a very useful tool today, but it will be even more so tomorrow or each additional watt consumed by your freebox / refrigerator / computer / washing machine will cost you more and more. Thanks to the wattmeter, we can for example easily realize that replacing a fridge that works but consumes a lot with an A++ fridge is economically profitable after only 2 years (in my case) because the excess consumption covers the cost of purchase of the last !

A Wattmeter is useful for you to realize how very bad the BOXES of our ISPs are on the subject (a box on standby is ~ 30w 24 hours a day, 365 days a year) and that turning it off when you don't you're not there or sleeping can be a great source of savings. In short, the wattmeter is really one of the essential measuring devices at home and allows you to be both to save money but also to make a gesture at your level for the planet. The multimeter: the hacker's friend If the wattmeter makes it possible to measure the consumption of electricity, a multimeter makes it possible to measure many other things.

I know you think it's typically the kind of device reserved for technicians, electricians and other savvy DIYers, but I promise you it definitely belongs on my list of must-have home measuring devices
Whether it's to repair the coffee maker, measure the voltage of the car battery, do continuity tests and find short circuits, know the charge level of your batteries before throwing them away (or recycling them in a remote control which consumes less for example) A multimeter is certainly reserved for people like me who like to tweak a little and will be profitable x 10 on the first failure that it helps you find and that is why it has its place in this selection of essential measure at home! The hygrometer: measuring humidity Yes we don't say "moisture meter" but hygrometer but it comes to the same thing: it is a device that is used to measure the ambient humidity or in a wall.

Why measure humidity in the house? Quite simply because an excess or lack of humidity is a very important vector of discomfort or even illness and which makes me say that a hygrometer is one of the essential measuring devices at home. Worse, a high humidity level can indicate a problem with your home: hidden leak, rising damp by capillarity in the walls, hidden water damage... A few years ago, my wife and I moved into an apartment on the ground floor of a building and soon after, my wife kept having allergy attacks.

Incessant back and forth to the allergist who finds nothing in him despite obvious symptoms: sneezing, runny nose, swollen sinuses, headache... in short, weeks wondering what is going on.

Conclusion: indispensable measuring devices at home Of course, you can live perfectly without any problem without these tools, but it's a shame to deprive yourself of significant savings and potentially degrade your way of life because you are unable to monitor your electricity consumption or your level of humidity, not being able to diagnose the failure of a device when you would be able to if you had the right tool.
