Car Alternator are cheap and powerful, but they are not really a perfect motor. The power at no load is high and therefore the efficiency is low, especially for if you use it at 350-500Watts.
Maybe for higher power the efficiency is improving
Maybe they are still interesting
but considering that today a 1800W brushless motor is coming for 40$ shipped, and that you need bigger battery, additional buck circuitry to power the rotor, and the weight is higher
