on video Differential Locks + Inter-axle - Training Video

When the differential is locked on the Detroit rear axles, both wheels will always turn at the same speed which greatly improves forward traction in situations such as snow and ice; or uneven surfaces like loading docks, curbs, or road shoulders.

It aims to demonstrate the speed change that happens with an open interaxle power divider as well as the speed difference in an open axle carrier. The use of a locker is demonstrated as well showing that the front and rear axle will need to turn at the same speed due to the dog tooth lock system used in the inter-axle differential.

It was made for training of technicians using cutaway photos, training aids or shop space of The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. This video is made to be an open resource for the instruction of the Heavy Equipment Industry and can be used for said purpose and may not be duplicated for commercial distribution or retail.
