Turbo whistling 1.9 tdi PD 77kw

An engine works by burning fuel compressed with air. To increase its efficiency, it is advisable to increase the air pressure before injecting it into the engine. The turbocharger (often just called “turbo”) provides an effective solution to these challenges, which many engine manufacturers face. It is also found in aviation, to allow many planes to fly even at an altitude where the air is thinner. To bring more air into the engine, a turbo uses the energy released by the exhaust gases (this energy is present thanks to the speed of the gases). This is a source of engine power that is wasted in some systems if they are not turbocharged. These exhaust gases enter the turbo where they spin the wheel of a turbine.

This turbine is designed to rotate very quickly, reaching a rotation speed of up to 280,000 rpm. It drives a compressor wheel, connected to the turbine by a mechanical shaft (the principle is the same as for a vacuum cleaner). These two wheels therefore rotate together and the high rotation speed allows the compressor to suck in a large quantity of air at room temperature and compress it.Thanks to the compression, the air is denser and has a higher temperature (the opposite principle is applied for air conditioning). This air then passes through an air-air exchanger, where it is cooled before entering the engine. Once in the engine, the compressed air allows the engine to burn fuel more efficiently. The engine is actually much more efficient this way.
