ATS Automatic Transfer Switch Changeover
What is an automatic transfer switch?
Low Voltage Automatic Transfer Switch Assemblies provide a reliable way to transfer essential load connections between primary and alternate electrical power sources. Data centers, hospitals, factories, and many other types of facilities that require continuous or nearly continuous run time typically use a backup (alternative) power source such as a generator or standby power when their normal (primary) power source becomes unavailable.
What TTY devices are available?
Various formulas are available, using two and three power sources.
Two power sources
Utility-generator
The standard transfer switch configuration includes utility service and a generator for normal and emergency power sources. This system is generally referred to as an emergency generator system. The single generator represented can be made up of several generating sets operating in parallel.
Public service-public service
This use case utilizes two utility sources that provide redundancy in the distribution system and enable rapid restoration of service to the load in the event of upstream equipment failure. The two sources may be independent of each other, requiring the utility to provide two electrical services, or they may come from a single electrical utility, distributed through redundant routes to the within the facility.
generator-generator
Transfer switches are sometimes applied between two generator sets for main power use, often in remote installations. In this case, the generator may be required to provide continuous power 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To equitably share the running time, the power source is periodically alternated between the generator sets.
