Motor Control 

The control of motors, small or high power, whether carried out from cards or modules, uses the same control techniques.

  These techniques adapt to most engines and allow their control, not only of speed but of acceleration, starting, stopping, positioning, shifting, etc.

Most of the time it is the scalar and vector techniques which are implemented, with the various possibilities of closed loop or open loop.

The latter is however used less and less, the precision on the speed being very poor because it depends on the variations of the load and the voltage of the source. It is easy today, thanks to all the electronic means available, to implement the closed loop without significant cost in all cases of engine control.

This video is an introduction to how 3-phase motors are typically controlled in commercial and industrial applications. In addition to motor control, this video addresses the ways to protect the motor and the wire supplying it with power.
